The Pavlovskaya hen is Russia’s most ancient chicken breed. For a long time the breed was considered to be lost, although breeders from Russia, Latvia and Ukraine hoped to find its trace. Around 1980 in a conference the project of a breed standard was prepared. All information on chickens that looked like the Pavlov was checked. The general impression of the bird should be a chicken of a light breed type, the size is less than average, land-fowl type, but graceful and elegant with a nearly horizontal body, a crest that resembles a helmet, a large beard and muffs. The legs are short with breed-specific feathering all around the leg.
