About Sin
The history of identification of the seven deadly sins has been a fluid process and the idea of what each of the seven actually encompasses has evolved over time. Beginning in the early 14th century, the popularity of the seven deadly sins as a theme among European artists of the time eventually helped to ingrain them in many areas of Catholic culture and Catholic consciousness in general throughout the world. In this modern version, the same order is used as found in "The Divine Comedy", by Dante Alighieri. In Renaissance times, when the subject was even more popular, animals and objects were used by artists as metaphors for the sins. In this series the skulls or skeletons of the particular animals that refer to a sin are painted with modern day brands that embody the relevance of the subject, even today.
